COLORADO (AP) At least 1,100 people have died in a wildfire that has burned through an area as far west as Greeley and as far east as Littleton, officials said.
The Colorado Department of Public Health says about 1,800 homes and businesses have been destroyed in the fire in the Colorado Springs area and a number of others in the Larimer County area.
The fire was burning through the forests of eastern Colorado as of Saturday afternoon, the Colorado Department for Forestry and Fire Protection said on its Twitter feed.
Firefighters battled the blaze that was still burning when it began Saturday evening, the agency said.
Officials also said at least 2,000 homes and buildings were destroyed in a small fire on Saturday that was sparked by a lightning strike.
